Trans-Borneo power grid ready by 2008
Financial Daily, Friday, 7 May, 2004

THE proposed Trans-Borneo Power Grid (TBPG) involving the construction of a 1,300km line across Borneo is expected to be implemented by 2008 upon the completion of the RMz...5 billion Bakun hydroelectric dam in Sarawak . .

State deputy chief minister Tim Sri Dr George Chan said there was a practical limitation on how soon the interconnections could be implemented as the Trans-Borneo Interconnection Coordination Committee (TBICC) needed to look at the legal framework.

He was speaking to reporters in Kuching yesterday after opening the third meeting of TBICC.

The TBPG project is a collaborative effort under the Asean Centre for Energy (ACE), Brunei - Indonesia - Malaysia - Philippines -East - Asean Growth Area Business Council and European Union under the European Union-Asean Energy facility (Eaef) programme.

Dr. Chan said the proposed Sarawak-West Kalimantan interconnection point was a 195krn line linking Singakawang in West Kalimantan and: Serikin in Sarawak .

He said the proposed Sarawak-Brunei interconnection entailed a new substation at Sungai Tujuh, Miri and an 80km line to Kuala Belait substation in Brunei .

For the proposed Sabah-Sarawak interconnection, he said the Sarawak Hidro1 would be required to construct about 700km'' of 500kV transmission lines from the Bakun dam substation to Kasigui substation in Kota Kinabalu. - Bernama
