Vietnam to build more hydro-electricity plants
to push electricity production

On May 10, 2003, at Duc Trong District, in central province of Lam Dong , the starting ceremony of Dai Ninh hydro-electricity project with total investment of USD440 million has been opened with participant of the Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung. This is the second biggest project on system of Dong Nai river. The investment include 85 percent of capital from Japanese ODA. The project has total capacity of 300MW, producing annual average electricity of 1.2 billion kWh.
Water pool for the plant consist of two dams of 60- m high and 4 supplementary dams with total of 320 million cubic meters of water, with ordinary water level of 880 meters.
The project planned to be completed in 2008, to supply electricity for agricultural development on lower parts of Dong Nai river and fertile 40,000 ha of land that is being deserted in Binh Thuan province.
According to VNE, system of Dong Nai river has potential to build 16 electricity plants with total capacity of 3,000 MW. Currently, VNE has built 5 plants with total capacity of 1,185 MW.
