Phu My plant to supply electricity to national grid next month
The Phu My 3 Power Plant in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau is expected to generate electricity to the national grid in early November.
The plant plans its commercial operation with a designed capacity of 716.8 MW by January 2004.
At present, the plant's steam turbine has been on a test run.
The gas-powered plant has an estimated construction cost of 412 million USD and is constructed near the town of Phu My , 75 km from HCM City . It comprises two gas turbines, two heat-recovery and steam-generation systems and one steam turbine.
The project was funded by shareholders (103 million USD), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (99 million USD) and a syndicate of international commercial lenders (170 million USD).
This is a build-operate-transfer (BOT) contract between the Ministry of Industry and the Phu My 3 BOT Co., Ltd., a company set up in Viet Nam by BP Holdings BV (a subsidiary of BP plc), SembCorp Utilities Private Limited and the consortium of Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. and Nissho Iwai Corporation.
The Electricity of Viet Nam will buy the plant's output for 20 years and the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Corporation will provide it with natural gas. When the BOT contract expires, the plant will be handed over to the Vietnamese Government.
