To reduce coal exports to increase
domestic consumption

Vietnam Coal Corporation (VNC) released that to carry out coal development strategy in the period on 2003-2010, VNC will reduce coal exports and increase domestic coal consumption. This is measure to save the national natural resources.
Total coal output in the period will be adjusted as : In 2003 coal production out put is 14.7 million tonnes, of which export is 5.6 million tonnes. For 2005, the respective figures set at 17.6 million and 4.5 million tonnes . For 2010 they are 24.8 million and 3 million tonnes respectively.
However, prices of coal in domestic market will be increased gradually reaching to export price level. Coal domestic prices will be annually increased by 3-4 percent to cover quick increase of relative production cost. Currently expenditure for investment of VNC reached to US$100 million, three-time higher than that of five years ago.
